The Aquatic Center at the Southern Regional Technology & Recreation Complex

Project Background/Description 

The Southern Regional Technology and Recreation Complex is a 37,000-square-foot LEED Silver certified state-of-the-art technology and recreation facility, named Public Building of the Year by The American Institute of Architects, Maryland in 2015. A focus on flexibility and multi-use options for each space shaped the complex, which includes a gymnasium, suspended indoor track, rock climbing wall, workout facilities, group exercise areas, large multipurpose room, professional recording studio, kitchen, and classrooms.

The aquatic facility will have approximately 13,770 square feet. The new facility will include a reception area, three bodies of water, which will include a therapeutic pool, a leisure/lap pool and, a spa. The facility also boasts a large viewing area, a wet/dry multipurpose room, two family changing areas, large locker/restrooms, staff offices, a vending area, and complementing support facilities. The project will also include the addition of 90 parking spaces.

The completion of the aquatic facility will position The Southern Regional Technology and Recreation Complex as the second Multi-Generational Community Recreational Center in Prince George’s County. 

Status/Project Updates

As of May 2020, the project is in the Construction Phase. The anticipated project completion is expected by Early 2021. 

Actual dates for the completion of the milestones are subject to change.
