Earth Day Programming Announced by M-NCPPC, Department of Parks and Recreation in
Prince George’s County
Riverdale, MD – Earth Day 2021 is Thursday, April 22. To celebrate, the M-NCPPC, Department of Parks and Recreation in Prince George’s County announces its varied programs for the community. Join more than one billion people worldwide in the celebration of Earth Day - focusing on how to protect the planet from pollution, climate change, and deforestation.
“Celebrating Earth Day is a reminder of the importance of conservation and sustainability,” states Bill Tyler, Director of the M-NCPPC, Department of Parks and Recreation in Prince George’s County. “The Department provides programs and activities to support residents with healthy and eco-friendly life choices. It’s our responsibility to Mother Earth,” proclaims Tyler.
Programs scheduled for Earth Day 2021 include:
EcoCRED App
The Department, with support from Pepco, is helping residents of Prince George’s County reduce carbon emissions by taking simple, daily actions using the EcoCRED App - an effective, user-friendly tool. Learn how you can help make a difference. Start building eco-friendly habits today. The app can be downloaded in the Apple app store, Google play store, and here.
Grab & Grow
Get a FREE pack of pollinator seeds, while supplies last, between 12-2 p.m. at Bladensburg, Glenarden, Marlow Heights, Oakcrest, Seat Pleasant and Suitland Community Centers. Since many flowering plants have a brief and specific flowering time, offering a range of plants provides needed sustenance for pollinators. Osprey Live Camera
Watch Osprey Live at Patuxent River Park-Jug Bay Natural Area in Upper Marlboro, Maryland. For over 30 years, Patuxent River Park has conducted scientific research to monitor the local population of Osprey. This includes installing nest towers and equipping birds with leg bands. Eggs are typically laid in April and chicks hatch in May. Please be aware these are wild nests in their natural habitat. While we hope all nestlings hatched will grow up healthy and successfully fledge each season - things like sibling rivalry, predators, and natural disasters can affect them and may be difficult to watch. Herbs in Thyme
Join Marietta House Museum from 6:30 – 7:30 p.m. for a virtual Earth Day celebration. We will discuss African American food culture and history – including agriculture, spiritual and religious beliefs, herbs and medicine, food sources and use.
