The Brentwood Arts Exchange is The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission’s component of the Gateway Arts Center—a dynamic, public-private partnership anchoring the Prince George’s County Gateway Arts District. Committed to enriching the community, Brentwood Arts Exchange showcases two contemporary art galleries, hosts live music performances, offers unique arts education programs for all ages, and features a retail shop highlighting work by local artisans.

Family Studio Saturdays invite families of all ages to explore creativity through hands-on artmaking in a welcoming, multigenerational environment. These workshops transform the gallery into an interactive studio where families can experiment with new materials, celebrate seasonal traditions, and learn side by side. The Brentwood Arts Exchange’s Artisan Shop is a vibrant marketplace dedicated to showcasing the creativity and craftsmanship of artisans from the Washington-Baltimore region. The shop features a thoughtfully curated selection of jewelry, pottery, textiles, fused glass, greeting cards, and more, offering unique, handcrafted gifts for every occasion.

Beyond the shop, we bring the work of artisans to life through rotating front window displays, seasonal pop-up events, and artist showcases that highlight the diverse talent of our creative community. Every visit offers something new, from exclusive handmade pieces to engaging opportunities to meet and support local makers.

Shopping at the Artisan Shop directly supports artists—artisans receive 75% of their sales, far exceeding industry standards. When you buy local, you’re not just taking home a beautiful piece of art—you’re investing in the thriving arts community of the Gateway Arts District.

Artisan Shop Events

Front Window Exhibit

Located at the entrance of the Main Gallery, the Front Window Exhibit (FWE) offers a dynamic showcase for local artisans, rotating every eight weeks in alignment with our main gallery exhibitions. This highly visible space provides a unique opportunity for artisans to present their work to the public and sell their creations in our storefront for a limited time.

Exhibitors are encouraged to craft an engaging display of their work and provide an artist bio/statement to share their story with visitors. Our Artisan Coordinator collaborates with each artist to curate an eye-catching presentation, both in person and online The Front Window Exhibit is more than just a display—it’s a platform for artisans to gain visibility, connect with the community, and grow their creative businesses.

Rental Spaces

Brentwood Arts Exchange features three unique, distinct, and affordable spaces for hosting various types of events of all sizes. Each room provides a different atmosphere and size that can accommodate groups and events of various sizes.

Main Gallery

This contemporary art space can accommodate 50 people seated at tables and up to 125 people standing comfortably. The main gallery features exhibitions that change on a bi-monthly basis and provides a beautiful setting for an event, such as Corporate or organization events or celebrations, holiday parties, individual birthdays, graduations, baby or bridal showers, lectures, book signings, workshops, film screenings, concerts and more.

Lab Gallery

Perfect for a more intimate occasion, this smaller exhibition and event space can accommodate 30 people seated theater-style and up to 50 people standing. This gallery also has a rotating exhibition schedule with inspiring displays of artworks.

Classroom

The classroom is perfect for Saturday birthday parties for kids or team-building creative exercises for adults and can accommodate approximately 25 people seated for activities. This creative workspace provides guests with a space to find their inspiration and immerse themselves in making art.

Add an Art Activity

The Department of Parks and Recreation’s Arts on a Roll program can provide an entertaining and inspiring hands-on activity to any rental!

Adults can enjoy such projects as painting their own wine glass, mosaic masterpieces, painting on canvas, or relief printing.

Or you can add a fun creative event for your child’s birthday party!

For example: Paint a flower pot, T-shirt, or hot chocolate mug, printmaking for kids, or paint your own canvas.

Application

All rental requests require a completed application. Rental contracts are issued based on availability and rental needs. A refundable $200 security deposit is required at the time of booking and, rental payments are due in full 15 days in advance of the event. Rentals include access to the amenities.

Amenities

Use of the kitchen will include access to the refrigerator and the microwave for warming. All food brought into the Brentwood Arts Exchange must be prepared by a licensed Food Service manager. For catered events, a certificate of Insurance and an Occupation License must be received by the Facility Director prior to approving the rental contract.

Please note that home-cooked or other food not prepared by licensed food service companies is not permitted.

Rental includes the use of up to 50 chairs and 20 3×5′ folding tables.

All renters are expected to be fully aware of and comply with all rules and regulations.

Parking

Parking at the Brentwood Arts Exchange is limited. Guests may also use street parking.

Visit

Admissions

We are open to the public free of charge during all operating hours except during special reserved events. Some events, such as live performances, may require tickets for admission. In those cases, amendments to open public hours will be posted in advance.

Visitor Guidelines

We ask that all visitors maintain respect for the artwork, staff, building occupants, and other guests. Do not touch any artwork or craft object unless you are explicitly instructed that it is OK to do so and please keep conversations quiet enough as to not interfere with other patrons’ experience of the artwork. Unless certified as a service animal, no pets are allowed. No smoking is allowed in the building and its premises.

Parking

Parking is limited. Guests may park on the streets to the sides and back of the center.

Gallery Hours

Monday-Friday from 10 am to 7 pm.
Saturday from 10 am to 4 pm.
Closed on Sunday.
