Undeveloped
The Seabrook School remains one of the earliest surviving schoolhouses in Prince George’s County. Thomas Seabrook, the namesake of both the building and community, died in 1897, leaving the property under the care of his wife. She sold the undeveloped lots to the School Commissioners, who soon constructed a schoolhouse at 6116 Seabrook Road, where it remained a single-room schoolhouse until 1953. The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission purchased the property in 1993, and has undertaken multiple restoration projects, including the foundation, windows, and addition of a ramp entrance. The Commission is currently developing new historic interpretation and exhibitions of the site and community. Work on this 1884 structure includes hazmat testing, abatement, structural design, and floor replacement.
